leaving in Portugal for a couple years

leaving in Portugal for a couple years?
I would like to leave in Portugal for a couple years, but I was wondering if I would be able to be live, study and work legally. I know that in the U.S in order to immigrate or be an international student one has to be wealthy. I'm not rich, but I'm not scared to work in order to accomplish my goals. I was born in Brazil. I know that Brazil is not part of the European Union, but if Portugal has any sort of relations granting Brazilian citizens to live, work and study legally in the country. thank you

Do you understand portuguese? If you don`t please tell me by mail.

Is anyone surprised that kids in Italty, Portugal, Spain, & Greece have very low math scores given?
... that socialists in those countries will penalize people that do well and reward people that do poorly with income redistribution? Haven't the citizens in those countries been taught that they will be penalized if they work hard and rewarded if they slack off --- just like Dems like to force upon Americans? (math scores are obviously for kids in school) --- source: WSJ p 5 today. 40 countries are ranked and those almost bankrupt countries (along with Ireland) are close to the bottom of the list

As opposed to the United States, where you are taught if your talent doesnt pay, its not worth studying. Thats probably why the United States cant manage to crack the top 10 in reading comprehension, and why it barely cracks the top 25 in math http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2011/2011004_1.pdf. Those with high literacy or good math skills are not as likely rewarded as some one who owns some property, can dunk a basketball, or can trade stocks. This has pushed most of our brightest in to Wall Street, not the lab. That is exactly why the US no longer sits alone or even at the top in most technology and engineering. By the way most of the countries that rank over the US are heavily socialized, like France, Finland, Norway Canada, Netherlands, etc.

Long Distance Relationship?? Can it work

Long Distance Relationship?? Can it work?
I'm currently dating a guy online, and we love each other to death. We have the same taste in everything, and we have so much in common. But the thing is I live in the United States and he lives in Portugal, and we won't be able to see each other for a while. We plan on talking in chat, video chatting, and talking on the phone until we finally get to be together. Can this work? And how can we keep our love strong despite being a long distance away?
Singles & Dating - 4 Answers

it can work. watch movies together while on skype/msn etc, maybe start playing a online video game together, talk often, do cute little surprise messages
2 :
i've been in this relationship for more than 11 months...but i can't take it anymore, i'm done...so, i guess not...
3 :
That all depends on how far you are willing to go to keep the relationship; are you willing to move to where this guy lives to be with him? I mean, you can't just live the rest of your lives together using webcams and keyboards to communicate; obviously you can't get married if you can't be together. So you need to think about what you are willing to do to be together, and if you aren't willing to compromise on the location you live together, then it isn't going to work out at all.
4 :
I'm now engaged with my fiance in South Korea... Long distance relationships do work, if you make them work. I'm in the Army. I met Alisha in Korea last year. We courted for 7 months. I proposed, and we were engaged. I have been in Texas now for 6 months and we are still going strong. We had a strong foundation to go on, and it works because we want it to work. Love is not a feeling. Love is an action. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8. Love is being patient, kind, forgiving, etc... These things are not easy. It takes effort. Now you have never seen him, and haven't dated him yet, so this makes things all that much harder. Also as a woman I would suggest that you are very careful with who you meet on the internet... It can work out though, don't be discouraged, just be informed, that it isn't easy and it won't always feel good. Good luck and I hope all works out for you, whatever you decide.

Each State has different licensing requirements. NY has the most I think of 1000 hours so you will definitely need to go to massage school and get the training to get licensed. Some states might let you come in with other training programs.

Terrified of putting on what I have lost

Terrified of putting on what I have lost?
I don't know if this is a mental health issue or what?! I am 23 & basically in 7 months I have lost just over 2 stone. I am now a healthy weight, wear size 10 clothes(UK)I am 5ft 7 and feel great. I associate a lot of bad memories and general unhappiness with when I was overweight, and I NEVER want to go back to that hermit or unhappy girl I was. I am going out to Portugal to work for a month soon and I am staying in a hotel where there are no cooking facilities. I cook all of my own food - healthy food and do not eat any meat or processed food. I am TERRIFIED I will put on weight whilst out there as I wont have my usual exercise routine, will be busy all the time and have no cooking area so i will probably be eating food cooked in who knows what!!? I am prone to putting on weight easily especially if I slip out of my routine for more than a week. Anyone have any tips? I know to some people this may seem melodramatic and silly the thought of putting on weight but seriously I was very unhappy and unhealth before and never want to go back

Is this a scam???? Help Please

Is this a scam???? Help Please!!??!?
I am looking to buy a car on Craigslist and found this post: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/1916921425.html I e-mailed the seller and got a response with the VIN number and offering to ship the car from Memphis, TN because she had moved to Portugal for work. I then asked for more pictures and she sent them along with the information that we would be completing the transaction through eBay. I would put the money in, she would ship the car and would receive the money after I received the car and notified eBay. I know this probably makes me seem very naive, but I do love the car and just want to know if there is any chance that this is reliable and not a scam. Thanks!

I think it is because that car should be priced at $10,000 or more.
2 :
Scam. There's no way they'd be letting that car go for so cheap. And this whole "I'm in Portugal" thing is bunk.
3 :
Scam!
4 :
I had the same question awhile ago... it doesn't make you feel naive, lol, but sadly it IS a scam, don't trust anyone on craigslist that want's to ship the car... if you don't believe me tell them you are willing to drive there to see/test drive it and watch what happens.
5 :
Too many stinking fish in this story. Why is it so cheap? How much would it cost to ship it from San Francisco to Memphis? Does she have the title? Never put any money down on a used car without seeing it in person AND taking it to your mechanic for a complete going over. It could have been in a flood, the photo may not be the actual car you will get, there may be a blown engine, or a rolled-back odometer. A mechanic will be able to give you the facts. And never give anyone a cent unless they have the title in their hand to give you in exchange for the money.
6 :
I think Barry is right about right with the price, not too sure about being $10,000.00 but never the less it is priced too low and the other thing is that the number plate is not to be seen but the main point is that do you really trust this deal? Well I would have thought that since there are a lot of scams going about of similar nature you need to take time and make sure that it is genuine sale. If it is possible to get a garage or someone you know near by who can go and have look at the car for you to authenticate what is being said is true, try that out just by saying that you will be sending someone over and see what the response is? VIN number can be taken from anywhere which would relate to a similar model, see if he/she has given you VIN number then why not show number plate because they go hand in glove when it comes to identifying a car for its authenticity. As for this Portugal thing, it seems a bit far fetched.

Does anyone have tips and guidance about traveling europe

Does anyone have tips and guidance about traveling europe?
tips like cost, accomadation, routes, equipment, camping etc? my aim is to start from dover in england and work down through france towards spain and portugal, up around to italy and from there ill review my situation. Advice on what to take, how much money needed, rail tickets, hostels to stay in etc would be a great help.
Other - Europe - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If you are European you can buy an InterRail pass: http://www.interrailnet.com/ That will give you your travel, unless you want to use high speed trains (surcharge) and overnight trains (compulsary reservation, and maybe also couchette cost.) If you are not European you can look into the Eurail passes, but those are more expensive: http://www.raileurope.com/rail-tickets-passes/eurail-global-pass/discounts-and-pricing.html Both passes come in different versions for length and coverage. See all different versions and work out which is best for you, as in how often and how much time per travel you want to be on the train. Train and hostels are a good combination, you will also meet a lot of people that way. If you want to camp, doing so while traveling by train is rather hard, as most campsites are far from the railway station and you will have to carry much more gear. It is possible, most campers use cars of at least bicycles. When you use hostels, next to your clothes you need a towel and in some cases a sheet sleeping bag, (but I have seen sheets for rent in almost all hostels.) A sleeping bag can come in handy, but is not often needed, specially in summer. If you go camping you will need a sleeping bag, and a mat, a tent, and likely also a stove, pan, plate, knife, fork, spoon and you can add the rest if you do camp. About your route, from the south of Portugal to Italy is a long way, you can contemplate a flight, if booked early they are not that expensive. But you can also take a week to travel back though Spain and the south of France. At this time a travel like that will cost about €75 (£75, $US100) per person per day, allowing you a little for the odd drink and sightseeing. Assuming you stay in hostels and your travel cost already paid for. If you travel by car you can cover more distance each day, but you will have to add for petrol/gas, as well as highway toll and cross channel ferry. For hostels and sightseeing information, and a few addresses of campsites, I prefer the Lonely Planet series, but in any case you will need a good guidebook covering the area you want to travel. If you want to travel by train, your only real options lay in going to Paris and south from there, in Spain you will have a few options, but do not count on many trains on all lines, often it is only a few per day. This railway map you can see where rail travel is possible: http://www.interrailnet.com/interrail_railway_map And the German railplanner in English is mostly a good help on travel information. It just does not give info on travel to Portugal at the moment: http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml So here is also one for Portugal: http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=87cbd5abe2a74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c0RCRD&lang=en

if u r only staying 4 2 weeks just leave your animals with family or friends. I'm 90% sure that your dog will need to stay i the U.K. for 6 months and im not sure but i think that after spending time in the U.K. they will need to stay with animal control for a while. just leave your dogs. It will be a more enjoyable holiday for the both of you

You should be easily able to travel within the EU as long as you have a pet passport. You are good to start to organise it now because I understand you need to start planning at least 6 months in advance. This site should give you all the information that you need http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/index.htm If all else fails, talk to your local vet.

Can I have my visa sent urgently?
I'm Mexican and I live in England, I need to get a US visa to go go a conference in June, but I will be travelling to Portugal to do field work on the 24th of March for two months and I need my passport as soon as possible. Is there a way to have my visa processed quicker to get my passport in time?? What about applying for the visa in Portugal? Would it be possible?

Try to get an appointment for the U.S. B-1 visa application on the first day after you return from Portugal. If you try to apply for the visa before you travel to Portugal you may probably not get your passport back in time and will be stuck in Britain.. •○•○• Added (based on your additional details): By law you can apply for the U.S. visa from any U.S. Embassy or Consulate General. However it is not a good idea to apply for a U.S. visa from a country in which you do not have economical and social ties. Visa officers stationed in Portugal can asses the ties an applicant has to Portugal and can asses the genuineness of Portuguese document. They cannot asses your ties to the United Kingdom or the gegenuineness of British supporting documents. The U.S. Embassy in London states on their website that appointments for visa applications are always available, usually on a next workday basis, for applicants with urgent need of travel to the United States. Make use of this service as soon as you return to the U.K. from Portugal. http://london.usembassy.gov/emergency-appointment.html .. Source(s): http://london.usembassy.gov/apply.html ..
2 :
Since you are Mexican, already in UK, traveling on job to Portugal, then on to the USA. Your applying for a visa to the USA makes good sense in the scheme of things at hand. To better your chances of getting a US visa from Portugal, you may get your two-way travel ticket in hand and bring it along to the US Embassy in Portugal while applying for your visa from there. Honestly, you can not rush an Embassy of another country to issue you a visa for any reason, unless it is an emergency of a grave nature that is well-documented as well.

Nightclubs/bars/music in Lisbon, Portugal

Nightclubs/bars/music in Lisbon, Portugal?
I am going to Portugal in June - I worked near Lisbon last year but never went to Lisbon at night (only for shopping and sightseeing). I loved it so much that I am going back in June for a holiday this time. My boyfriend and I both like dance music and rock music, we would like to know if anyone can tell us of any good bars/clubs preferably in the centre of Lisbon. Also do the Portuguese mind you being in their clubs in the evening? I am only asking as I was once in a remote part of Spain and the people were not friendly at all in the clubs/bars etc.

I am thinking of moving to Portugal to work and to become independent. My mom says that i shouldn´t live there because it is very dangerous to live there. The reason why i am thinking of moving to Portugal is because, i can´t stand my family,my 32 year old sister and my mother.I hate them so bad.I don´t want them to see me or call me.I just want to leave my family. My mom threatens me with killing me if i comunicate with my boyfriend again in wich she does not know if i´m still going out with him.She does not understand that i have to think about myself and that i want to work. She only wants to see my sister happy. She treats me and my sister differently. And they are good friends.I don´t like them both at all.what should i do?go to Portugal to start from zero?because i preffer to start from zero than to be with them.I am 23 and i know what is bad and good for me.

Leave,start a Life you Deserve.
5 :
You're an adult and you know what you want. Do what you think is going to make you happy. If your Mother isn't going to see that her daugther is happy, then you're going to have to see to it yourself. Just go.. tell her that you're an adult, and you're going to live your own life. Tell her that you think moving to Portugal will make you happy, and you're leaving. Or , just leave a note some night that says you're moving and don't be there when she wakes up. You have to think about yourself and your happiness.
6 :
You are 23 years old and your mother threatens you to kill you? What is wrong with her. Cant you get a job and move out from the house? If you cant, then maybe it would be better to move in Portugal. From what i now that's not a dangerous country. The people are very civilized. She cant stop you to do that. But you should be careful if you tell her before moving.
7 :
Well I question at 23 if you really know what is good or bad for you I made a lot of mistakes about that age you have other options than Portugal may be just get apt on your own and do not communicate frequently, but my Bible says to Honor Thy Mother and thy Father I think that is the wisest choice you can honor her but live a separate life.
8 :
There is nothing wrong with wanting to go to Portugal to live but running away from your problems never solved them. Don't think that living in another country will make you forget that you think your mother was unfair to you. What you need to do, first, is talk to someone who will help you resolve your anger towards your mother and sister. Do see a therapist of some kind. This will be a big step towards freeing yourself from this bitterness. Also, even though it sounds illogical, the best way to put bitterness and anger behind you is to forgive the people you are angry at. Once you are able to truly forgive them, you will be free of all the hatred that continues to tie you to them. Then, whether you stay wherever you are or go to Portugal, you will be your own person and finally free to live your own life.

You are right. You are old enough to know what is right and what is wrong. I think you should go. BUT be careful.First make sure you have a job WAITING, accomodation, etc. OR at least a back up plan, just in case it doesnt work out(Im sure you dont want to go crawling back to your parents, you will never live it down)LOOK AFTER YOURSELF. I left my home when I was 18 (not by choice though) and because everyone was so negative towards me, I made a life for myself. If you believe in yourself, you can do anything. If it'll make you happy, do it!Good luck!!!

England/Portugal question with a twist

England/Portugal question with a twist.?
If it had happened the other way around, and English players fell over when brushed by Portuguese players, then Ronaldo was invloved in an incident where he got sent off, whilst being provoked by Rooney, and then Rooney winked at the England bench as if to say see I told you it would work. How do you think the Portugal fans would react/feel - and any England or Portugal fans be honest. Atomin - it's called a hypothetical question - which you have failed to answer - as it is hypothetical it does not matter if you believe Ronaldo/Portugal cheated or not - you should answer the question about if England had cheated how would the Portuguese fans react/feel - if you come back to look please post another reply telling me how you would feel if the England team cheated and Portugal lost.

I Think the Portugal fans would act the same way England fans are acting .... ANGRY ! .... Portugal cheated .. They probaly PAID the referee .... Rooney got kicked out cause 2 GUYS WERE TACKLING HIM .... AND HE MIstakly KICKED THAT GUY IN THE BALLS !!! ...... Apparently ... ENgland got screwed and i hope they get a rematch .... HOPE ! ... If anybody dissagress wid me then PISS OFF !

...You forgot to mention the ref and linesman not giving the penalty when Carvalio (think it was him) clearly handballed in the penalty area. But in answer to your question as an English fan i would feel: Great we are through but i wish we could have done it more fairly, It doenst make us look good....
5 :
The same exact way as the England fans.
6 :
itd be the exact same thing except twisted around...like your question.
7 :
Problem with your question is that you've interpretted the wink, you make it sound like Portugal went out of their way to get Rooney booked from the very beginning. For all we know the wink was him acknowledging the bench telling him to get out of the ref's way before he got booked too. We don't know, and the media will just fan the flames of anger because it is easier to do that then put the mirror on to the English team. That doesn't matter, in the end, Rooney did tread on Portugal players nuts (fact, no interpretation), he did push Ronaldo right in front of ref (also fact, also stupid with a hostile ref). His temper is always something that is just beneath the surface, it is his strength and his weakness. After the accidental stamp, as I don't think he did it intentionally, he should have gotten as far a way a possible, he didn't. Ronaldo should have, if asking for a card, gotten one himself, I don't think he did cry for a card, but that will come out in the match report. Regardless, he is now the easy scape goat. England knows that some sides go to ground all to easy, and should have dealt with it, or at the very least gotten a goal when Rooney was there to make this discussion null and void. 62 minutes and no goal, and if he had stayed on are you sure England would have scored... They actually played with more urgency after he was sent off. England under performed from the start and Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham and yes even beloved Rooney didn't show any of the abilities that we know they have. I think what ever team is on the end of the RED card would be crying bloody murder, but that is just picking what is easy to be angry about, I think England supporters should be upset because the team didn't represent ENGLISH football at the least with the justice it deserves. For the record, it was never a red card, but all of us saw what Rooney was like when he got substituted off during the England vs Swede match up, angry, pouting. He needs a good dose of reality and less pressure from the media to be the saviour of England. Fifa should crack down on the drama queens and enforce the rules already in place to stop Portugal, Italy, Ghana and england (joe cole was no saint in this matter either) from doing what infuriates all of us fans. PS. Portugal fans would have been doing exactly what the England fans are doing, with the exception that they would be reconcilied to the outcome sooner than the English, which should be 40 years of bitterness less time.

i am a huge fan of C.Ronaldo, but after seeing that incident ,i started hating him

Don't be naive. The English team couldn't play a thing, unless you call kicking high balls to the striker playing soccer, which it isn't. On the contrary, you have Mr Hargreaves who brushed off several Portuguese players and wasn't booked. Portugal didn't get a single free kick close to the English area, unlike the English who has several. The referee was clearly favoring the English! Now when you sore losers say Rooney's red was Cristiano's fault, that just makes me laugh! So you think the referee could be bossed by Cristiano? Hah hah hah hah! And I didn't know winking is a crime, or foul play! Winking, for crying out loud! Go Portugal, and you English may have a chance again in 4 years if you learn how to play, meanwhile. P.S. Hi Jaws OK. Nobody likes to be cheated upon. That's only human. Of course I'd be mad for a while. In fact, Portugal was cheated against, several times in the past and in this cup, considering the ref was systematically against us in the Holland and England games. Only, fortunately it wasn't enough to make us lose.

portugal sucks. Bottom line! Portugal , the team of "cheaters and cry babies"

Why don't they like me as much as her? Interferring Inlaws

Why don't they like me as much as her? Interferring Inlaws!?
My boyfriend's parents seem to have "gone off" me and I don't know what the problem is! Here are the facts: Everything was fine when I first started dating him (Nov 2008). We had a long distance relationship as he was working in Portugal. Feb 2009 he decided he wanted to move back to the UK to be with me and began looking for jobs. I fully supported him with this however it was entirely his decision to move back, I didn't pressure him! June 2009 he left Portugal and we both rented a room in his parents house while we looked to buy a house. Everything was lovely and friendly. August 2009 his brother got a new girlfriend. Since then everything's changed. (Dec 2009 we bought a house and moved out) Here's a bit about this girl: - I've never found it this hard to get along with someone! - She point blank refuses to talk to me or my boyfriend, giving one word answers or just ignoring us completely, something which we both find highly irritating and very rude. - She got pregnant less than 3 months and to begin with was very irresponsible (drinking, drugs, smoking) - She doesn't do ANYTHING around their house instead sits in front of the TV while everyone cooks/cleans for her. - She's moved in however doesn't have to pay rent. My problem is that no matter what I do, his parents always seem to prefer this girl when (in my opinion) they shouldn't. I've tried very hard to get along with her however they seem to see it as MY fault we don't get along! Since we've moved out they've been round most days helping with decorating, that's great and I'm fully appreciative but their 'helping' consists of telling us how to decorate, what colours etc, it even went as far as them insisting we built a wall between the open plan kitchen/living area, something which both me and my partner liked about the house! This has calmed down since my boyfriend told them to stop but I can't help feeling slightly resentful that they treat us like children. We have a house, we are financially stable (temporarily crippled from moving expenses), we haven't got a baby on the way etc, the opposite to his brother who they completely leave alone! I don't know what to do! I can only think of a couple of reasons why they don't like me and they are pretty pathetic... 1/ They blame me for their son giving up his well paid job abroad (as I said, I had nothing to do with this decision) 2/ They think I am sponging off him because I'm a student (OK, I can see this one however I'm paying half the mortgage, I pay for food and household bills, any extra money I have goes on things for the house... I don't see that as sponging, obviously I can't pay for as many things as he can as I am on 1/10th of his salary but we've spoken about these things and he is happy with the way things are. Also this other girl is a student and sponges ridiculously off their other son who has very little money anyway) I'm beginning to tear my hair out here, I obviously have a problem with not being liked! :) Can anyone give me help with what to do? Or else just reassurance I'm not completely neurotic! mt75689, you're right, I can't think of 5 things, but I don't despise her. I do actually want a decent relationship with her as I believe there's a chance she might be nicer that what she's letting on. I've tried for 6 months and haven't really got anywhere. Would I try that hard for someone I despise?

You are neurotic, lol....I mean that in a kind and reassuring way. If you stop comparing yourself to others, you won't feel like you're coming up short! His parent's opinions of you are less important than his...and he can't help who his parents are. Time to let it all go...you'll feel better. :)
2 :
Stop making this a computation and just live your life. Take their ideas as suggestions and do what you want. Treat the girl as if she was invisible, that's how she treats you, don't waste time on her. I have a feeling she won't be around too long. Stop torturing yourself about the lack of respect from his parents, it is their problem not yours.
3 :
Women sure know how to build a case against someone... One thing I know is that when you allow yourself to despise someone, it's almost impossible to find something good to say about them. Go ahead and try. Find 5 nice things to say about this girl ~ I bet you can't do it. The point of this exercise is so that you can see what you have become. You're angry, you feel as though you being treated unfairly, you believe yourself to be better than this girl, and you want your boyfriend's parents to acknowledge that. Your attitude is making YOU the problem, and it is affecting your perception of the situation.

Should the US decriminalize drugs

Should the US decriminalize drugs?
Ok so just to put this out there I dont use drugs, the only drug I use (i dont consider a drug) is weed. Coke, ecstacy etc are gross, they are unnatural feeling and its nasty. Anyway, back in 2001 Portugal's government decriminalized all drugs, if you get caught with a small amount you either get a small fine (no jail) or the option of receiving treatment for the problem. Drug distibutors will still get in trouble but not if its for personal use. Here in the US there are SOOO many people who are in jail for drugs who really don't need to be there. If we decriminalized drugs we would save alot of money. It worked for Portugal and all the statistics show that there is now a drop in drug usage. What do you think? Here is a link to the article so you can see for yourself : http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=portugal-drug-decriminalization

We have far too many retardo's now in our population. Legalizing drugs would just kill this nation even faster.
3 :
Yes, look back into American history during prohibition the surplus of organized crime that took place the countless killings. I agree with you entirely. Even prostitution should be decriminalized. Not only that people have failed to relise the lack of scientific evidence and legislation that went into making marijuana illegal. Im not a pot smoker im just saying it is ridiculous M lets say the guy was drunk instead of high you would still be in the same situation. But lets look at the bigger picture why did he run (because the substance is illegal) but he may have been charged with a hit and run, at most for the substance fined depending on how much he had in his possesion, and proplably lost his license. But if it where regulated like alcohol then his punishment would have been that more severe. No one is saying let people go and smoke in the street or while driving they are just saying decriminilze it and regulate it. Remember it is going to be easier for your child to get an eight ball of cocaine then it is for him/her to get a six pack of beer because of the unregulated black market.
4 :
It is rare for people in the US to serve prison time(maybe short stints in the county or city jail) for simple possession of a controlled substance. Most people in prison for drugs are in for distribution. Your example of portugal sounds like it is almost the same with the exception of the local jails. It will not reduce the number of inmates in prison and therefore not save much money at all.
5 :
Absolutely is should be legal.....and....it should be legal to commit suicide. People who want to engage in this WILL do it...regardless. In my opinion, the majority of the crime is attempting to circumvent the law to get it. They get it eventually, so....let them have it. If they kill themselves....oh well. If people are stupid enough to destroy themselves with this stuff, then who gives a sh!t if they kill themselves on it. It's one less toad out there we need to worry about.
6 :
People who do drugs do not care if it's legal or not. So making drugs illegal is not going to stop drug use among the populations. Some people are always going to find a way to get high. Why turn them into criminals if they are not doing anything harmful to anyone else?
7 :
Some people may abuse it, just how they have abused prescription drugs. I guess I different point of view since I was rear ended so hard because someone who was high on marijuana was too slow to react to stopping at a stop sign. I was barely 29 weeks pregnant and got rear ended so hard that my belly shook like jello. He did not pull over to see if I was ok but rather backed up and took off. I got his license plate number. The detective had his truck towed and found remnants of marijuana in his truck. 3 weeks later I had a premature baby because some idiot was not paying attention and getting high while driving and too scared to pull over. So thats my thought on legalization. Hope that gives you an insight on a victims standpoint. Take care!
8 :
Interesting article, but I hated how TWO podcasts auto-played simultaneously as soon as the page loaded. Clearly, it would be vastly better to follow their lead. Here, even if you WANT help with your addiction, you're told to come back in 9 months, because they don't have the resources to help everyone when they first show up. But I'm afraid the idea is very unpopular here.
9 :
We should legalize them but keep tabs on who uses them. Like, if you smoke (weed, coke, tobacco, etc) or use drugs your insurance premiums go up, you're unfit to raise children, and you're ineligible for welfare or other forms of federal aid. Every time a meth-head goes to the emergency room they're just squeezing another grand out of a tax fund as emaciated as they are.

On a scale from 1-10 1being super easy, IMHO it'a about a 3. just check with that countries embassy about visa procedures for US citizens. Most countries allow work visas for at least 3 months. Otherwise you can travel without any paperwork to most countries with just a US passport. In the EU it is easy to travel between borders. GOOD LUCK!
2 :
Technically you need a visa before traveling to most EU countries with the intent of staying more than 90 days. On a side note, if you don't have a job already lined up, you should wait until you can at least tentatively arrange some form of employment as most businesses prefer to hire nationals of their own country.
3 :
as an US citizen? you can enter the schengen zone visa free for 90 days but not more,if you were to work? you would need a job ahead to going get a work permit and then allowed to stay.

Will Obama and the democrats in congress take note of Europe's financial problems and reign in spending

Will Obama and the democrats in congress take note of Europe's financial problems and reign in spending?
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/29/business/global/29euro.html?pagewanted=all Europe has high taxes and high spending. How well has it worked out for Greece, Portugal, and Spain? The EU is now trying to stop the total collapse of these countries.

The EU and the USA's respective budget policies are not connected. Spain and the UK actually have a lower public debt / GDP than the USA. You can't just use a grossly oversimplified comparison like this and expect it to mean something. It's easy to cherry pick individual small countries and pretend that it means something about the USA. Watch. Ready? Denmark has a lower public debt than the USA does, but it has very generous public welfare benefits, universal health care, inexpensive universities, and lower crime. Funny how that works isn't it? Aren't conservatives the ones who always tell us that things that work in Europe can't work in the USA? You guys have really short memories.
2 :
Cloward and Piven
3 :
No, it is what they want. They want to control everything, and what better way to do that than to make everybody dependent on the government.
4 :
Come on now, common sense isn't their strong suit.
5 :
Nope. Sorry but just because something has been proved not work time and time again does not mean that we won't try it to just to see what it feels like. I find it funny that liberals swear by science and math and yet they don't apply that same logic to political structures. Every socialist style of government on the planet has failed in it attempts for equality. Statically speaking you have to draw the conclusion that those types of governments don't work.
6 :
And why didn't Reagan, Bush Sr, or Bush Jr reign in spending since each created at the time record government spending and federal deficit levels? Oh that was Republican spending so it was OK. I see. Fact is the unprecedented and reckless spending of those 3 Republican presidents are a major reason we're in the mess we are now. Yes the spending so far under Obama is bad but I see he had little choice considering the economic, military, and social messes he was left to recover from.
7 :
Nope, they want us to be just like Greece.
8 :
Haha, we take your tax money you fools. Shalom.
9 :
Don't we always do things better in the good ole USA? And, just today Grayson was trying to pass a bill for a budgeting committee. The dems voted for it 2 to 1 over the Republicans. I'm surprised they just didn't walk away and not participate. They won't join the game until they are made captain. Sore losers.
10 :
The Obama administration knows full well that it's policies are crippling our economy. They just don't care. Saving the economy is not part of their agenda. Their agenda is to create such a crisis that the only perceived solution will be for the government to take over everything. He will never accomplish his objectives while the people are in power. The government must 1st have control.
11 :
No they will not reign in the spending, they want to raise our taxes so that they can continue to spend more. They look at the problems in Europe and say we are smarter than they are, that can't happen here, but in reality what is happening in Europe is what they want to happen here. They don't want to let a good crisis go to waste, The Left wants to create a crisis so that they can take our freedoms away. There is a bill in Congress that they want to pass that gives Obama the power to shut down the internet in the event of a crisis, but there is no definition as what that crisis has to contain, any little thing could be called a crisis. Because you and I are not as smart as they are when it comes to running our everyday lives. They know better as what we need to do to take care of ourselves.
12 :
were already in historic debt and we have already passed bills that will only drive that debt up so it is a little late to worry about spending and debts because we are on the same road as Europe the only difference is our economy was better when the hard times hit so it will take us a little longer to get to the cliff. but do not worry it is fast approaching and our breaks are quickly wearing out.
13 :
It is a difficult balancing act to reduce spending and keep the economic recovery alive. We'll just have to see how they do in the next couple of years.
14 :
No until they are replaced they will just continue to spend what we don't have and tax and tax and tax some more
15 :
No, I can't speak for all democrats only for myself. I do not believe in creating success or failure on history or what anyone else is doing. I like the way the money has been invested into people in this country. The money that is spent on war did not start with any decision Obama made so her really did inherit that drain. Bush really left the country with jobs just tumbling down. It is going to get much worst cause many people who have lost jobs are now eventually going to lose the unemployment payments they have been getting. It would be nice if employers were investigated & fined for hiring illigal immigrants & Americans citizens would be paid as well as illigals have been paid to do the work they were doing. To constantly act like everything Obama is doing is wrong is a sign of brainwashing & is starting to make me tune out.

Interesting places doesn't work in Google Earth for some countries.?
When I select interesting places so that I can see them in Google Earth they won't appear in Portugal and Ireland. Now Ireland is not a problem for me, but because I'm going on holiday in a few weeks to Portugal I need to know where I can find some interesting places. But they don't appear in Google Earth (version 4.3) when I select the button left under for interesting places. Anybody help?

Google Earth is still a pilot program, and some of the places haven't been updated. In addtion to that, Google tends to rely on its users to add "Interesting Places". That being said, if no one has visited these countries, or these areas, then I guess there would be no interesting places to post.

after the top two teams from each group are decided (by playing each team in the group and the two teams with the most points, 3 for a win, 1 for a tie and goal differential) then it is predetermined which group plays which in the single elimination round. Each group winner plays a team that finished 2nd in it's group. For a complete list of the group matchings go to this website: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/bracket.html

You may want to decide which way you are going to do this ..before you blunder on.... It look like you intend to travel on a Visa waiver with the intent of marriage and then adjusting status... Oops that illegal ..... think again ... Follow the flowcharts here for the correct way http://familybasedimmigration.com/forum/index.php
2 :
If he is american citizen your green card is quickly than he isn't citizen. While you are application you must stay in USA. Check the Immigration web. Greetings and good luck. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis
3 :
Hey..I am from Colombia and got married with my husband (citizen) sent all my paperwork to USCIS 2 months after our marriage..I want to say overall the process took about 6 months...you do not have to return to your country while they approve your status their is no such thing...you are here in USA...you send all your paperwork to USCIS and wait for your biometrics appt...your EAD...interview and green card afterwards...good luck !
4 :
about 6 months to 1 year if you file everything timely. Whether you can stay depends what kind of visa you go. Not on visa waiver program. You cannot adjust your status while on a visa waiver program. So you should have at the minimum a B2 visa or better a fiance visa. If you do, you are OK.

yes you can it just depends on how good you are and your ablitiles to hit the ball

17 is a relatively late start to the game. tennis is an amazing sport that requires years of discipline to compete at the pro level. it's not very often that you hear about someone picking up the game late in their teens and doing well but maybe you're the exception. keep at it and you never know. good luck.

I just finished college and majored in accounting. I found a job as a secretary and hate it! I would LOVE to be a teacher! (I was influenced by my family to be an accountant because teachers here in Portugal have no jobs there are so many of them!) I am a sunday school teacher so is helps a bit. But i would love to be a teacher what can I do? Is it to late? I am 21. Thanks!

It is only to late if you let it be to late. One of my best teachers in High School was a Navy 25 year man went to college after the service and became a teacher; he was 49 years old when he started. He taught school until he was 85 years old; he died two years ago at 95 years of age. It ain't to late unless you let it be. Also very few of us ever get the job we want and could love, you are one of the millions world wide. You got a job that pays your bills; well you are better off than a lot of us Americans are right now!

I am 18 years old and i can't work [Dead Father] (Economy problem) *Portugal*

I am 18 years old and i can't work [Dead Father] (Economy problem) *Portugal*?
Hello Everyone :) I need some a Opinion/Help. I am 18 years old but i want to start getting my life started Currently in this year i want to get my Car driver license but i can't. My father died about 1 year and half with Stomach cancer, since then we have been receiving Money pension. I want to start working but my mother and my brother don't let me. Why do i fix this Dilemma? Is there anyway for me to win money in the more "Easily" way? Using some kind of secret in the economy or on the Stock Market How to Make Money in the Stock Market During the the Economic Crisis and Profit from the Recession? Is there anyway for me to gain money without loosing my father pension btw: The pension money doesn't go for me, it goes for the food. And my brother is a rich guy but he doesn't tell how to make sucess, HELP? I am from Portugal P.S - My mother and my brother and extremely controlling me, i can't have my own life with them stopping me! (I feel angry, suffocated and annoyed with that) My brother is a Selfish, trust me, if you meet him, you would hate him

Your are of adult age now. You can get out if you truly wish to start your life. The European Union is huge ! Pick any country and go !
2 :
First off, I am so sorry about your father. It's really tragic when things like that happen :( Now to answer your question: It seems as if you're looking for some kind of get-rich-quick scheme which is just not going to work, unfortunately. Even thieves have to work hard to do what they do - not that I'm encouraging you to do that, I'm just saying that everyone has to put in work to make money. Figure out what it is you like to do, deal with your mother and brother through effective communication, tell them your goals and desires and the fact that you're now an adult, and hear them out. Everyone has a reason for what they want to do. Decide your goals and your interests and act on them - go out there and find a job you'll enjoy and which will enable you to make money. Don't just look in the short term to make money, try to build a long-lasting career. It's okay if you don't make much money at first - maybe that's the key to attaining happiness and making even more money in the long term. Also, since you're only 18, I think it makes sense for you to consider getting a college degree. Consider speaking to an adult or teacher about the possible options you have for attending college and receiving financial aid. An education is the only way you will be able to sustain yourself in the future and make enough money to live comfortably. Seriously consider this. It is a question of your life and you cannot afford to gamble it away. Good luck! Hope this helps :)

If you are in possession of a passport for a specific country, does that make you a legal citizen?
My grandfather moved from Portugal to South Africa to work many years back and married my grandmother who was south African. He registered my mom at the Portuguese Consulate but the procedure wasn't completed. Now she's contacted them and they're going to register her and give her a Portuguese I.D card and passport, and then once she's done she's going to do the same with me and my sister. Do we have legal rights to citizenship?
Embassies & Consulates - 3 Answers

1 :
It depends on Portugese law.
2 :
Under Portuguese law you have to have a parent born in Portugal in order to claim Portuguese citizenship.
3 :
If you have the passport you will be a citizen , but in this case I doubt very much you and your sister will be able to get a Portuguese Passport - you may have a chance with a visa. Your Grandmother can obtain citizenship through marriage . The child of a Portuguese born parent may acquire citizenship if they are born outside of portugal if their births are registered with the embassy. Very few European countries (in fact I can't think of any other than Italy ) are going to give citizenship to grandchildren that are second generation foreign births. A child born to a Portuguese parent is automatically a Portuguese citizen provided the parent was born in Portugal or is employed by the Portuguese state. Or, the child may be registered as a Portuguese citizen. Portugal does not offer citizenship beyond the first generation so although your Grandparents children could claim a passport you and your sister could not.. You might be able to get an ancestry visa to live in Portugal but you will have to be able to speak Portuguese.

Spain got owned 4-0, by Portugal, and Brazil lost 1-0 to Argentina.
2 :
Brazil 0 - 1 Argentina This match was pretty boring until some random dude ran out on the field. It was funny cuz it took the authorities a minute to catch him lol. Then in like the 90th minute Messi scored the winner. It's the first time Argentina have beaten Brazil in like 5 years I think. Spain 0 - 4 Portugal This match was really entertaining, in my option. C. Ronoldo scored the first goal of the game but it was disallowed because stupid Nani touched it on its way in and he was offside. The thing is, the ball was already in the net but the ref didn't think so. Its a shame because it would have been a killer goal if it had stood, one of C. Ronaldo's best. Goals: Carlos Martins 45th min, Sergio Ramos (o.g.)49th min, Helder Postiga 68th min, Hugo Almeida,93rd min
3 :
Messi scored the only goal in the Brasil vs Argentina match in the 90th minute...and Spain got owned by Portugal even with their best team out. What would have been Ronaldo's best goal to date was disallowed because of a terrible call (again) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xp_94Dodbs . Pique on the ground was keeping Nani onside...making that a perfectly clean goal. Two by Postiga, one by Hugo Almedia and an OG by Ramos. Oh, not to mention Ronaldo schooled Pique.. and Nani was just absolutely breathtaking yesterday. Highly entertaining match.

Arg won 1-0 goal by messi portugal trash spain 4-0.

Will Kate & Gerry McCann be charged in the case of their missing daugher in Portugal? What's your prediction

Will Kate & Gerry McCann be charged in the case of their missing daugher in Portugal? What's your prediction?
What do you think will be the next development in the case of the missing girl in Portugal? Will the parents be charged? The way I see it, the fact that the police are allowing them to return to Britian shows that they probably don't have any real evidence against them. They were probably working on some very flimsey, subjective finding, and were taking a shot in the dark to see if the parents would go for it. So if they don't charge the parents in the next three days I would think it shows the police have nothing. What do you think will happen next in this case?

Like I think they said, she was probably killed by accident and the mother and father covered it up. I"m still waiting to hear more evidence on it.

It's totally obvious the parents know more than they have led us to believe. There is not a doubt in my mind they are guilty. But where is the evidence? The fact that they are stupid and selfish is not enough to convict them. What should happen, what would be cool is they were tried for neglect, that in a way- if they are innocent- is still fair. None of this may have happened if they were not so concerned with their social life. Which also causes me to belive that these two are sucking this worldwide story off a spoon. Sad really, I belive that there is a special place in hell for these morons.

If you want a prediction, read up on the Azaria Chamberlain case in Australia (the 'a dingo's got my baby' case). Chamberlains charged, acquitted, charged, guilty, released, divorced, exhonerated when it was found out the crucial 'blood' used as evidence was actually more likely to have been chocolate milk spilt on the floor of their car ... and who said 'don't cry over spilt milk'? The world wants resolution to this case. We don't like 'not knowing' - let's be careful how we find it hey?

That is an optimistic final. I am a Germany supporter, and hope they make the final, but it isn't likely with the injuries they have and an unproven goalie. In the past three WC's their goalie has been great, however this time I think that is their weak link and just making the semi-final will be tough for them. I hope I am wrong. I like your final 4 however, and would say Brazil or Portugal to win it.
3 :
Brazil, Spain, Italy and Ivory Coast. (i think an african team can get to the Semi's this year)
4 :
Brazil! But I'd like to see Mexico win, but I don't think I ever will, will I?

In my bracket I picked England v. Spain (Spain wins), Holland v. Brasil (Holland wins) with Holland beating Spain in the final.

Hi, it is not wise just to move there and then look for work. Because what if you end up not finding a job at all can be really frustrating. It depends on what kind of field you are interested, what experiences you have before you plan on moving. One of the ideas is to find job ads online like on http://www.nationnews.com/ but even better if you get a company to sponsor you. You need to start saving some more because Barbados is an expensive place to live. I have lived there temporarily with a family (my friends') and know that money can go so fast in short period of time. I think you need a work permit in order to work in Barbados if anything. http://www.bidc.com/section2.cfm?SubSection=171 It is a very beautiful island.
2 :
you should have a job lined up before you move. there is booming hospitilaty industry. but jobs are tight, you literally could live on the beach, but they have laws against that, and be advised, they only give 6 month visas
3 :
Hell no, most of the people there are leaving to live in Canada. It's generally not a smart idea!

Call your City Hall and ask. I think you will need to sponsor him for some amount of time. You need to have an income of 50k a year or more. Sometimes you can go to him and get married and then he can come back with you and then you get married here in the states. I
3 :
Somehow your English doesn't sound like you're an American, but for the sake of argument, I'll answer your question. Whether you want to get married in the US or Portugal, you will have to petition your fiance for the right to come live in America, obtain and Visa and greencard and you will have to meet some financial requirements to ensure that your fiance will not become burden to the state if he is allowed to come here. Marriage is only one of the requirements, and by itself offers no rights. This process can take up to a year to complete, which is a horrible injustice for people in love, I agree, because I went through it, and you'll have to too. You have to go to the DHS website and figure out what you're going to do from there. You can do it yourself, providing you have a home, a decent job, you will easily meet the requirements. It is also somewhat expensive, and the forms are tedious and if you make a mistake or they want more information, they will send the forms back for you to fix it. http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/

Can I apply for a Temporary Residency Visa in Portugal before I have a job

Can I apply for a Temporary Residency Visa in Portugal before I have a job?
My friend and I are US Citizens and after graduating this coming Fall we plan on traveling to Portugal. We want to work once we are there, but do not have job offers and plan on acquiring bar tending jobs, waitressing jobs or something else that we can come across once we are there. I fully understand the Schengen 90 visa rules, but what if we want to stay longer? I would like to apply for a temporary residence visa, but I need a written letter from an employer and I will not have that seeing as I don't plan on getting a job until after reaching Portugal. What should I do? Is there a way I can get a temporary residence visa without having a job first? Or do I need to get a Schengen visa and then apply for temporary residence after acquiring a job (and a working visa?)

Good luck with that. It's hard enough for local nationals to get work anyplace given the current economic situation, so I don't think you stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting any kind of work whatsoever. No, you can't get a temporary visa. If you really want to stay in Portugal, look into being an au pair.
2 :
You better try to ask on a portuguese consulate, good luck.
3 :
Orla is completely right. Its a good place to live but hard to get work. And those that have work are struggling. Plus in order to get a visa you have to have a job, or a job offer to start with. All the documentation necessary afterwards will be supplied to you by the company you are working for. And the about the au pairs, its a phenomenon how most of them in Lisbon seem to be from Brazil. I really reespect them because, brazillians will get any respectable job to survive. Respect mates. Cheers buddy.
