Hi Evora is a great city with everything you might need. Not much to say about that. I just want to warn you about the heat!!!! Get ready to melt in summer time!!! I'm not joking....you can fry an egg on the floor!! Best wishes and bring tons of summer clothes!

Good choice! Évora is an old and historic city (with a university, that is one of the oldest in Europe (!!!!)) The place is good for familiy and children - alentejanos (the people from Alentejo), are very friendly, but you have to respect their customs! (for ex: there are many orange trees in Évora. Don't pick a single orange...) It has a very interesting cultural life. Shopping is so so. Jobs, you don't find a lot... PS - In summer, heat can really melt your brain. In winter, is also cold (well, for Portugal's standarts...)

Evora is too far to commute to Lisbon but if you want to relax then you have a good place. for jobs, entertainment and shopping no but to raise kids yes.

Evora is a small town in the middle of the country, in the part of Portugal called Alentejo. It is beautiful and with lots of history (the have some marvellous Roman ruins there). It is small and quiet and relatively safe for children. I don't think there will be a lot of job posibilities for foreigners there. The bus fra Evora to Lisbon takes approx. 2 hours.

How can I measure ingredients for baking without scales? Please help daughters birthday emergency

How can I measure ingredients for baking without scales? Please help daughters birthday emergency!?
Hi, it is my daughters birthday and she wants fairy cakes which would be very simple if we wernt living in Portugal on my husbands work contract and have no scales!! I normally use 125g of flour, butter & caster sugar & 2 eggs (plus a bit of milk) Can anyone please either help me convert that, or give me a different recipe please. I am from the UK so if you are a kind US reply I have no idea what a cup is??? Thank you so much!

125g flour is generally equal to 1 cup (8 oz). Even though weight is a better way of baking, most American recipes are reflected in volume measurements for ease.
2 :
a cup of flour is about 110 grams.
3 :
Well, I am US and I do try to always be kind - so here is my answer: One pound of flour is roughly 3 1/2 cups and one pound equals 455 grams. So 455 divided by 3 1/2 = 130 grams per cup. Roughly. Here is more: All-purpose Flour and Confectioners' Sugar U.S. Cups Grams 1/8 cup 15 grams 1/4 cup 30 grams 1/3 cup 40 grams 3/8 cup 45 grams 1/2 cup 60 grams 5/8 cup 70 grams 2/3 cup 75 grams 3/4 cup 85 grams 7/8 cup 100 grams 1 cup 110 grams This is from a "Continental Cooking" Cookbook I often use.

Do you mean convert it to oz? I'm not sure what you need converting, esp. if you aren't using cups... but anyways, one ouce is equal to 28.35 g. Seems like a small cake recipe...

It should be easy to get the weight of the butter approximately right, just estimate the weight going by the overall weight of the butter in the pack (eg half a 250g pack). Then you could improvise a set of scales with eg a ruler, some string and some plastic bags. adjust the amounts of sugar and flour until they weigh the same as the butter and each other. good luck!

I know it probably a little to late, but there is a website that has very a very accurate weight/volume conversion program: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com Just click "conversions" on the menu bar at the top and the rest is self-explanatory.

for MMS to work both carriers have to have an interoperability agreement and run on the same platform. Check with O2 and see if they support vodaphone portugal.

Wedding first dance song - i'm Scottish

Wedding first dance song - i'm Scottish?
At our wedding I want to have a Portuguese song as our first dance. The reason being I went to work in Portugal and heard this song which I absolutely loved. Obviously it is in Portuguese with no English version. When I came home I let my partner hear it and he loved it too and since then we both listen to it a lot. My partner and I have agreed we would like to dance to it at our wedding. Members of my family started to disagree, complaining that it was not "traditional". What should I do?

i think your first dance should be to "lets get married" by jagged edge!!!!!!!!!

If you and your fiance love the song the go ahead and use it. It's your wedding. What the two of you want is all that matters. Don't let the naysayers change your mind. Families have waaay too many opinions when it comes to weddings and they certainly shouldn't get a say in what your first song is.
